Our next Eucharistic service will be Maundy Thursday.
All of our Sunday sermons are recorded and available on YouTube, as well as our Sunday morning worship services.
Palm Saturday and Sunday, March 27 and 28
Prayers for the City: Palm Procession, Saturday March 27, 1:00-3:00pm
Palm Sunday, a service focused on Jesus’ final entry into the city of Jerusalem before his death, begins what Christians call Holy Week. Holy Week culminates in Good Friday, when Jesus is crucified, and ends with the Easter Vigil on Saturday night. On Palm Sunday, the Episcopal tradition usually involves a procession with palms, reminding ourselves of how we can be as fickle as the crowd that day- welcoming Jesus and later, rejecting his influence in our lives. To mark Palm Sunday this year, we invite you to a different sort of procession: not around the Cathedral, but around the city.
As we enter Holy Week, we are called to remember Jesus’ last moments and the collusion of politics, religions, and individuals in his death. Those same forces remain at work in our world, bringing about suffering and death for many. This year, we invited you to process in prayer around downtown Erie, stopping to pray in certain places, praying against the forces that collude against life and praying for the love shown in Jesus’ last week to be made known to all.
The walk will begin at the Cathedral of St. Paul (143 W. 7th Street), where you will receive a map and prayers from our tradition that you may wish to pray at each stop. We will be at the Cathedral to give out maps and prayers from 1:00-3:00pm, but you can walk for whatever time feels right to you. We ask that you mask and socially distance during the walk.
Palm Sunday, March 28, 10am
We will celebrate the Palm Sunday liturgy at our regular 10:00am Sunday time on Zoom.
Holy Week and Easter, April 1-4
Maundy Thursday, April 1- share a meal over Zoom at 6:30pm and/or join worship at 7:00pm
An important part of Maundy Thursday at the Cathedral has been sharing in an Agape meal after the liturgy. This year we will offer an Agape to Go! - a take-out meal to share together on Zoom before the liturgy begins at 6:30pm to share this meal. To read more about the meal and to place an order, visit the events page.
Whether you join in the meal or not, our service for Maundy Thursday, a service of Holy Communion and Stripping of the Altar, will begin at 7:00pm on Zoom. Eucharistic elements can be picked up during the times of soup pickup or after worship.
Good Friday, April 2 at 7:00pm
Join us on Zoom for the Good Friday liturgy of prayers and remembering the final hours of Jesus' life.
Lighting the First Easter Fire, April 3, 7:15pm
Easter begins at sundown on Saturday, a time we traditionally mark with the Great Vigil of Easter. This year, we will gather on The Green (off 7th street, by the parking lot), to kindle the first fire of Easter and for a short service or readings and prayers. Please wear a mask and prepare to social distance. We invite you to bring a candle.
Easter Sunday, April 4, 10:00am
Join us on Zoom to celebrate the resurrection of Christ! We will also celebrate the Eucharist; elements may be picked up at the fire lighting on Saturday, during the hours of soup pick-up, or Sunday after the liturgy.
